Vortex Filtration System Manufacturer in India

Complete Filtration & Utility (CFAU) is a vortex filter manufacturer in India, based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and supplying industries across the country. Our Vortex Filtration System uses centrifugal force to separate sand, scale, grit and other heavy suspended solids from process water, cooling water, borewell water and wastewater, continuously and without screens, cartridges or filter media.

An industrial vortex filter from CFAU protects heat exchangers, cooling towers, nozzles, pumps, membranes and downstream filters from abrasion and clogging. With no moving parts and no backwashing, it delivers reliable solids removal from process water with low maintenance and low energy use.

CFAU offers two types: centrifugal vortex separators for industrial process water, cooling water and wastewater, and screen-type vortex filters with a self-cleaning stainless steel sieve for rainwater harvesting systems.

What Is a Vortex Filtration System?

A vortex filtration system, also called a vortex separator or centrifugal separator, is an industrial solid liquid separation system that removes particles heavier than water by spinning the liquid inside a specially shaped vessel.

Water enters the separator tangentially, which creates a high-speed rotating flow (a vortex). Centrifugal force throws the heavier particles outwards against the vessel wall, where they spiral down into a collection chamber at the bottom. Clean water rises through the centre of the vortex and leaves from the top outlet.

Because separation is driven by the flow itself, there is nothing to clog, so the system keeps working at a steady pressure drop, 24 hours a day.

Why Suspended Solids Are a Problem in Industrial Water

Sand, silt, scale and process debris in water cause damage across a plant:

  • Abrasion and wear of pump impellers, seals and valves
  • Fouling and blockage of heat exchangers, chillers and condensers
  • Clogged spray nozzles, strainers and cooling tower fill
  • Sludge build-up in tanks, basins and pipelines
  • Frequent replacement of cartridges, bags and other filter media
  • Higher load on RO, UF and other downstream treatment equipment
  • Lower efficiency, more downtime and higher maintenance costs

An industrial particle removal system stops these solids at the source instead of dealing with the damage afterwards.

How Does a Vortex Filtration System Work?

The CFAU vortex filter works on the principle of centrifugal separation:

  1. Tangential inlet: dirty water enters the separator through a tangential inlet, which sets up a fast spinning flow.
  2. Centrifugal separation: heavier-than-water particles are pushed to the outer wall of the vessel.
  3. Downward spiral: the separated solids spiral down the conical section, guided by gravity and the flow pattern.
  4. Collection chamber: solids settle in the quiet zone at the bottom of the separator.
  5. Clean water outlet: filtered water rises through the centre of the vortex and exits from the top outlet.
  6. Purging: collected solids are discharged through a purge valve, manually or with an automatic timer-based valve, with very little water loss.

The system can be installed in full-flow or side-stream (bypass) configuration and runs continuously, with no shutdown needed for cleaning.

Low Maintenance, Energy-Efficient Operation

The CFAU Vortex Filtration System is built for continuous duty with minimal operator attention.

  • No screens, cartridges, bags or filter media to replace
  • No moving parts inside the separator
  • No backwashing, so very little water is wasted
  • Low, constant pressure drop for energy-efficient operation
  • Manual or automatic purge valve for solids discharge
  • Optional controller, pressure gauges and sand collection tank

Applications of Vortex Filtration Systems

  • Cooling towers: side-stream filtration to keep basins, fill and heat exchangers clean.
  • Process water filtration system: removal of solids from recirculating process water.
  • Borewell and raw water: sand and grit removal before storage or treatment.
  • Pre-filtration: protection of RO, UF, softeners and fine filters downstream.
  • Heat exchangers and chillers: prevention of fouling and blockage.
  • Wastewater filtration system: grit and heavy solids removal in effluent and recycling lines.
  • Machine coolant and wash water: removal of metal fines and particles.
  • Rainwater harvesting: debris removal from roof runoff before the storage tank.

Vortex Filters for Rainwater Harvesting

For rainwater harvesting, CFAU also supplies screen-type vortex filters. Rainwater from the roof enters the filter housing and swirls around a stainless steel sieve basket (approx. 280 micron). Clean water passes through the sieve to the storage tank, while leaves, pebbles and other debris are carried down and discharged to a drain. Because the flow keeps washing the screen, the filter is largely self-cleaning. Rainwater vortex filters are sized by the roof catchment area and the inlet/outlet pipe diameter.

For water with a heavy load of sand, grit or scale, a vortex separator is the most economical first stage of filtration, and it reduces the load on any finer filters that follow.

FAQ's

A vortex filtration system removes sand, grit, scale, silt and other solids heavier than water from process water, cooling water, borewell water and wastewater, using centrifugal force instead of filter media.
Water enters the separator tangentially and spins. Centrifugal force pushes heavier particles to the wall, where they spiral down into a collection chamber, while clean water exits from the top through the centre of the vortex.
A vortex filter typically removes particles down to approx. 40–75 micron, depending on their density compared with water. For finer filtration, it is used as a first stage ahead of finer filters.
No. There are no screens, cartridges or media to clean or replace. Collected solids are simply discharged through a manual or automatic purge valve, with very little water loss.
Yes. Side-stream vortex filtration is widely used on cooling towers to remove airborne dirt, sand and scale, keeping basins, fill and heat exchangers clean.
A sand filter traps particles in media and needs regular backwashing, which uses water and causes pressure to rise. A vortex filter separates solids by centrifugal force, keeps a low constant pressure drop and needs no backwash.
CFAU vortex filtration systems are available in MS (epoxy coated), SS 304 and SS 316, selected according to your water quality and application.
Yes. Screen-type vortex filters with a stainless steel sieve basket (approx. 280 micron) remove leaves and debris from roof runoff before it enters the storage tank. They are largely self-cleaning and are sized by roof area.
Yes. CFAU supplies vortex filtration systems across India and outside India, with delivery, installation and commissioning support.
