Activated Carbon Filter (ACF)

CFAU is one of India’s leading providers of advanced filtration technologies. Filtration removes particulate matter by passing water through porous media such as sand, gravel, and activated carbon. Depending on the system, filtration can be biological, mechanical, or chemical.

Types of Filtration:

1. Slow Sand Filtration:
A biological process where bacteria in the top sand layer digest contaminants. While effective, it requires a large area as the flow rate must be maintained at 0.1–0.3 m/h.

2. Rapid Sand Filtration:
Developed to handle higher flow rates, this method is faster and more efficient compared to slow sand filtration.

Filter Types Offered by CFAU:

Dual Media Filter (DMF):
Ideal for water with fine suspended matter like mud, dust, and biological growth. The vessel is constructed of welded mild steel with top and bottom flanged covers, a raw water distributor, underdrain system, and backwash water jets. Water flows downwards through the filter bed, trapping turbidity and suspended particles, while filtered water is collected at the bottom. Backwashing reverses the flow to clean the filter bed.

Activated Carbon Filter (ACF):
Treated water passes through a vertical pressure vessel containing activated carbon and supporting media like pebbles and gravel. The top distributor ensures uniform flow, while the underdrain collects filtered water. The system is pressurized and equipped with a backwash arrangement to maintain performance.

Pressure Sand Filter (PSF):
Designed to remove turbidity and suspended solids with minimal pressure drop. The vessel can be vertical or horizontal and contains graded silica sand over layers of pebbles and gravel, with a top distributor for uniform water flow and an underdrain system for collection.

Multi-Grade Filter (MGF):
A depth filter that uses a mixture of coarse and fine media to retain both large and small suspended particles. This configuration allows a higher specific flow rate than conventional filters, improving filtration efficiency.
